Re: Neat little Mustang kit

I've seen the kit before, it is very neat indeed. But I'm the kind of person who will give it a full paintjob anyways.

Re: Neat little Mustang kit

Very interesting. I've build a Tamiya motorcycle once that had clear cowlings. I left one side clear, and painted the other. Works pretty well from both sides, but I had to do extra details since they would show through the clear parts. Happily Tamiya gave a nice set of hose and cable sets which look pretty good.

Re: Neat little Mustang kit

I've got a 1/24th scale Trumpter Mustang that came with clear cowlings and regular. Very nice Merlin that I added some detail to but not a whole lot. I did one half regular and the other half clear and it truned out very good, my to boys love looking at it. I was thinking of doing the same thing if I got this mustang half and half.

Re: Neat little Mustang kit

That's a pretty old kit, early or mid 60s. If it's like the other kits from that time it should have held up pretty well. I couldn't find the original release date but it was Monogram originally.

I have fond memories of seeing it at a department store called Uncle Bills when I was little. I always wanted one, that and the 1/72 scale B-52 kit by Monogram. It brings back great memories!!! It should be fun to build!

Re: Neat little Mustang kit

Ah... that 1/72 B-52 by Revell! I had that kit as a boy, and I must have been only 4 years old! My dad was a champ and bought that for me, knowing it wouldn't amount to much, it was just for the fun we had together with it. No idea what he paid for that kit back in about 1982, but it was a huge kit.

I found this page with some pics of the kit... brings back memories.

Re: Neat little Mustang kit

Great kit

I LOVE to see the innards

In front of me I have a 1:48 transparent P51D from Nichimo named "see through" that I probably 30 years or so ago. I remember wondering back then why so few "see through" models are available. Just goes to show that our small niche of WWII airplane nuts is further subdivided quite sharply. Just seeing what makes these planes tick is a biggie for me. BTW does anyone remember the german magazine "Luftfahrt International", that was certainly ******** especially for a 13 year old
