I FINISHED ONE!

Say, I almost forgot to post pictures of my latest model!
It's not really that new, I finished it in time for the local IPMS invitational contest held November of 2007. But I didn't get around to shooting photos of the finished model until earlier this month. What's more, I've been building it off and on, mostly off, for about 2 years.
Anyway, it's a highly modified 1/35th Emhar kit of the Mk.IV British tank of all things!
Here it is finished-

If you've seen the kit, or tried to build it, you'll know that it's just not a very good kit. Many details are poorly molded or just plain missing. And the fit? It just DOESN'T fit together too well!
Here are some fun pictures of what I did to it to spruce it up some-

I used Grandt Line rivets, Airwaves photoetched gun ports, Scale Link machine guns, Panzer Shop tracks, brass nuts and bolts and chains, and a lot of styrene, brass, copper and aluminum stock.
I used real rust on the tracks and exhaust, but I ended up painting it because I didn't like the color. I used lacquer for the base coat, it was washed over with several shades of oil paint, and it was dry-brushed with a combination of lacquer and acrylic. No pastels were used although it does look like it.

I did pretty good at the contest! There were lots of nice kits on the table, some built by national IPMS winners. I didn't think I had much chance of placing at all. I was very surprised to find out that not only did I win 1st place in the closed top 1/35th scale armor category, but I also won best of show for armor. I got lucky

So, it's old news now, I just forgot to post about it

Stunning work mate

I have a work mate who is also a semi pro model maker (does the build/pic/report stuff for mags) and he would be proud of that one.

When I go up to Lincoln they have whats left of one in a museum (the original 'Tank' was built there) and its a huge rusting hulk. You cannot get a feel of the size of these monsters till you stand next to one

Re: I FINISHED ONE!

Congratulations m8, that looks excellent! Are you considering putting it into a diorama?

Re: I FINISHED ONE!

Looks like it would have been quicker to get a big lump of plastic and carve it yourself!
That is one excellent piece of work.

Re: I FINISHED ONE!

I'm still amazed at this. You may as well have started from sheet plastic and Grandt line bolts. A truly awsome depiction of a pig. A figure would help to establish the immensity of these things. A truly enormous amount of work Blowhard, and I'm actually humbled in the presence of such awesome work.
