Profiles vs. Perspectives

Stumbled across this posting which gives examples of profiles when perspective is added. Kinda results in a fish-eye view!

Profiles - Screenshot World

IMHO profiles should follow the time-honored definition as based on a 2-D side view

1. They look like pictures taken through a fisheye lens or very overstressed aircraft.

2. The lamer just copy pasted them from screenshots which I personally find very weak. Passing that of as a self drawn profiles is just downright theft.

Nope, not my cup of tea, but its whatever floats ya boat.
Live and let live I say, I'm happy with flat side on, he's happy with fisheye, let the games commence.

I'm with you Jester. But he does need to be careful not to claim others work as his own.

Re: Profiles vs. Perspectives

Interesting approach. I've used screenshots as perspective guides for paintings, but they were more traditional perspective paintings.

After doing a few like that though, I did a little practice with drawing while looking at a real model. More enjoyable for me, though I do sometimes like taking the long way to do things. Like my poor motorbike drawing which I'm never getting around to doing some painting on!

Re: Profiles vs. Perspectives

No sir, I don't like it!
My feeling is that you'd never see a plane like that anyway, why not do it full perspective and put in a background?

Ad, FINISH YOUR MOTORCYCLE! THAT'S AN ORDER!!!

Re: Profiles vs. Perspectives

An interesting concept, doomed to go the way of the dinosaur. The fuselages look like they have undergone a -12G landing. Not sure what this proves. I guess they are how a fish would see these aircraft if they were parked under water,

Re: Profiles vs. Perspectives

Given the direction of gravity, I'm now trying to figure out how a negative-G landing is possible.

Aside from that brainstorming of mine, I'm not crazy about it either...
