I'm going blind on this one, so MANY small details. I'm using Dan-San Abbott's drawings to start with. I've planned to the final profile to be 1pixel = 1mm, so the overall aircraft length 7300 pixels. (of course this is reduced)
There are a few mistakes I know about already and a lot of things I'm not sure of at all.
I NEED MORE REFERENCE!

Golden rule, the older it is, the harder it is to get reference for, but it looks like you are doing a bang up job. I never start with lines like you and otter are, but I have to say, its like having 2 products. The line drawings look good enough to stand on their own and could probably be used as some sort of feature?

Re: The line drawing bandwagon

How about a Simmers Colouring-in Book available at selected retailers and all good aeroplane colouring-in book shops?

BH,

Just guessing--based on my limited knowledge of your weapons suite--you did use PS for the line work, not Illustrator, right?

Re: The line drawing bandwagon

As much as I love and use Illustrator on a daily basis, I don't really see a use for it here. Unless it is purely being used for line art as above. I would love to see an illustrator profile that is half as proficient as some of the work posted here.

Re: The line drawing bandwagon

Jester, this is my first try too, it's been interesting. I have been doing a few test with rendering parts to make sure I've got my lines set correctly but I'm basically just working on the lines now.

You're correct Joe I'm using PS right now because I'm faster and more comfortable with PS's line tools than in Illustrator. My plan is to set the lines up for use in rendering in PS but to bring them into Illustrator, make the needed adjustments to how the lines work together, and do a line drawing in Illustrator. The real challenge is going to be setting up the paths to be various line thicknesses to emphasize different parts. I'm looking forward to making an ordinary line drawing into a subtle work of art

Giant, the way things are going now I'm thinking Illustrator and Photoshop will merge together someday

Do I have too much time on my hands? YES! But it had to be done
