Ki-61-II Kai Ko

Howdy all!

I'm on a Ki-61 kick lately with both skins and now this profile. I always loved the final version of the Ki-61 and just had to do one.

As you can see, I'm not even half done here, but wanted to share my current progress. The background is just that, a background and it may or may not be the final. So anyway, Unit is the 56th Sentai and this is based on a pic of one I assume was in their possession.

Comments are always welcome!

Nice looking bird! I think you should try to do something about the underwing area, which strikes me as too light, not having enough shading. It's not coherent with the underside of the fuselage.

I didn't know about those late Ki-61 marks.

That's something you don't see often! Nice work Jadehawk
Along with Gamary's suggestions I'd say you could beef up the shading all the way around and make it more three dimensional. And maybe tone down the white some. But it's very nice just like it is

Re: Ki-61-II Kai Ko

Thanks fellas!
Good suggestions all! I'll wait until I get all the rivets in before tackling the shading more. The rivets are somewhat difficult right now as not many photographs exist of the real Ki-612-II's Supposedly only a hand full were made, but again I'm finding the exact figure is different depending on your sources.
I have done more, but will post later when I get several things done first.

Again, thanks fellas!

Re: Ki-61-II Kai Ko

Well I did more work tonight. Not much and Noooo I did not start the rivets yet! I will soon...maybe this weekend when I get more time. But I got fixtated on the shadowing and highlighting and before you know it, I got what you see here. This is about a 60% reduction from the original which is at 600 DPI.

Better?

Re: Ki-61-II Kai Ko

At that scale I wouldn't bother with rivets really, almost anything remotely visible you draw is going to be out of scale. I'd still make the shadows a whole lot darker

Re: Ki-61-II Kai Ko

Thanks for the tip about the shadows!
I'll take crack at it soon enough. BTW, I just got the new Paint Shop Pro X2 today and have been messing around with it using this artwork now.
After I re-calibrated my monitor, I saw the shadows, colors get lighter. So that means my white markings are too light now and maybe that's why you say they are too light. So gotta fix that.

Re: Ki-61-II Kai Ko

ARRUUUGGGHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had a disaster! Seems I was NOT paying attention when I was working in the new Paint Shop Pro X2 I just got and (your gonna love this) I saved my latest additions to the layered template for this and it flattened ALL THE LAYERS on save!
I should NOT have been working on it so late to begin with!
I also should have paid attention to what file type it was saving to to and I didn't.

So....after several days of feeling stupid, I started this all over again. Currently I'm making all the lines and rivets next.

Should go faster this time however.

To me, it's like you have to be really dumb and make mistakes for awhile before getting smart! LOL! I guess that's how I learn!

Thanks
