P-51 Mustang WIP

Hi guys,

For Mustang!, I'd created this a few years ago:

Name: Cuba.jpg
Views: 822
Size: 32.1 KBName: Cuba.jpg
Views: 822
Size: 32.1 KB

Which nows looks like this:

Name: start.jpg
Views: 818
Size: 51.2 KBName: start.jpg
Views: 818
Size: 51.2 KB

Well, OK: it's not an evolution, a new one... Having installed extra RAM (now at 730 Mb, guys!) , I'm now attempting to draw at 35 cm width (300 dpi), which should enable me to print in A3 format decently...

Any comments, criticism? I'm mostly thinking of shape as this is a very early WIP.

I'm confused, which one did you do first?

Looks pretty good so far! Nice subtle metal finish. The shapes looks pretty good too except for the tail. Maybe you haven't gotten to it yet but it looks kind of flat and needs to be separated from the fuselage...like this-

If you planned on doing this already, sorry for the arm-chair profile painting
Keep it up, it's looking good

What markings BTW? Or will you do ALL of them?

My peculiar sense of humor, doesn't always travel well across the net.

Re: P-51 Mustang WIP

I've worked some more on it and I'm rather dissapointed with the results but I'll keep on anyway. Out of despair maybe.

At least, I'm satisfied with a new technique I've tried with the bubble canopy. The idea was that there would be a reflection of the horizon and clouds. It's not very visible, but I'd like you guys' opinion on this:

Name: cockpit.jpg
Views: 734
Size: 42.4 KBName: cockpit.jpg

I've also tried a new technique for riveting: what do ya think?:

Attachment 1824

For the rest, there still is a lot of work to do. I'll probably concentrate my energy and time on a few key spots designed to draw people's attention away from the parts I've fouled up.

Re: P-51 Mustang WIP

Cockpit technique looks good. The subtlety works well, just a hint can go a long way. My only suggestion would be to flatten out the curve of the reflection half way up the canopy. From memory, the Mustang bubble canopy bulges outward slightly, so the reflection would be nearly horizontal, or more inline with the lower frame.
Rivets look good.
Whoa! I'm wrong about the canopy, see attached!
Nice work, Gamary, I can't see any of the other problems you mention.

Re: P-51 Mustang WIP

There are two kinds of hoods GrubbyFingers, your's has the later dallas style hood mostly used post war and on converted duals. Gamary's is quite correct for WW2 machines.
