Supermarine S-5

Well thought I'd show something that's been on the back burner for a few months now. I started it at the beginning of the year, But made the mistake of rushing into it. 2/3 of the way in I had to redo the panel lines on the radiator and delete a lot of work This took the wind out of my sails and I lost interest in it for a few months, But I thought I'd give it another go.

This is a Supermarine S-5 which won the 1927 Schneider Trophy for Britain in Venice Italy. I'd like to thank Blowhard for he's tip on adding green, yellow and brown to the bare metal. I'd already added black and blue to it. I'm not to sure about the shade of blue that the S5 was painted in, I know it was a lighter shade than the S6. Later on it was painted in the same colour has the S6 but in 1927 this was not the case. Any comments would be most welcome from you guys

Re: Supermarine S-5

Yeah, very nice. Great metal work Not only that, those Schneider racers from between the wars are about as elegant as planes ever get!!!
Will there be a Macchi, a Curtis and a Savoia to follow? I hope so!

Re: Supermarine S-5

Thanks a lot guys, Still plenty of work to do yet.Just like to say theirs some great artist on here that do some outstanding work, Thank all for sharing.

Blowhard I was thinking about doing another Schneider racer possibly the S-6 or the Curtis R3C-2 but I can't find a really good line drawing to start with for the Curtis. I'd just like to state that I will not be doing the Macchi-Castoldi MC-72 as Erretje_1.JaVA's is already working on this Aircraft, So that is his baby.

Re: Supermarine S-5

Very nice profile and great choice of subject, too! I'm particularly impressed by the way you've drawn the floats.

Re: Supermarine S-5

Thanks gamary, I seem to have got the 3D on the floats looking OK! but I can't seem to get the same 3D effect on the fuselage right at the moment I guess i'll just have to keep experimenting...

Re: Supermarine S-5

I'd say the tail needs a bit of work, but the rest of the fuselage seems OK to me. It must be said you haven't chosen the simplest shape to represent. I'm sure the Gee Bee is an easier draw.
