Using Bright

Hi all!
I'm used to skin with Photoshop 7.0. I downloaded FooBar Bright plug in, installed the file in ..\plug ins\import export, then it seems all ok.
When I want to save the bmp without merging the layers in the psd template I go to File->Export->Bright, and, when I'm prompted to indicate where I want to save the file I comply and then clik OK.
Unfortunately the bmp is read by PF/FB/IL2, but is not a skin, just a grey spot. Maybe something goes wrong in the palette conversion to the 8 bits/256 colors ..
Any hint?
Many thanks

Gianluca

Re: Using Bright

That is the same process I used when I was skinning for IL2/FB, so I believe you're doing the process correctly.

When you open your BRIGHT output image in Photohshop, does it appear normal, or gray?

Re: Using Bright

It appears gray. I enclose the bmp as a sample (I resized it to 10% since the original one is 1 mb and it has become coloured ..). The Bright output has 2,5 pixels/inch resolution instead of 72 ..

Re: Using Bright

Mmhh.. Things are starting to get confused ...
Maybe that's me doing something silly, but I tried with Porsimo's Brighter interface for Bright. In the input file only bmp, tga and pcx formats. No psd?

Back to Foobar bright tool .. it seems that the output is a 24 bits file instead of a 8 bits, with a 2.5 pixels/inch res instead of 72 ..

Ok, I'm sure that's me doing something wrong, but, please, anyone has an idea of how to fix it?

Re: Using Bright

Well all gray is a software problem I'd guess. I'm almost positive that I always exported straight from the PSD file to FB ready skin. The BRIGHT stand alone program, and the interface program only accept image files, but the Photoshop plugin should output from the current PSD.

I'll re-install my plugin, and do a test and then post back with results.

Re: Using Bright

I've had a similar problem, which turned out to happen only when I had left my template in "quick mask" mode.

May or may not help, but check your not in "quick mask" mode, prior to exporting with bright

Re: Using Bright

Thanks Willy. I'm quite sure it's not my case, but I'm going to check it out.
The weird thing is that I got the same output using the command : File->Save as, trying to save the psd to bmp without merging the layers (that's exactly what I'm trying to avoid! , because of earlier mistakes ).
The latter way did work until I installed the bright plug in!!
I don't know what's happened, maybe I should disinstall and install again PS 7.0

Re: Using Bright

Just by chance, have you tried the dll files that are avaliable for Photoshop in our Tools section? Perhaps they may help.

BTW, I'm going to download and install the Photoshop plugin, can't find my backup.

Re: Using Bright

I'll give a try, just downloading the files. Anyway, the remove white plug in does work, at least up to now!

Re: Using Bright

Ok, I just installed the BRIGHT exporter plugin into my Photoshop Elements 2.0 and it works. I exported directly from a PSD, and got a correct 8 bit bmp output.

Let me know if the dlls work and I'll check on somethings.
