We are open to suggestions and whilst we cant work miracles, I wont rule anything out at this stage

Well ill be honest not sure yet there seems to be a lot more here than at ubi i always came here for colour charts when i do my skins anyway, theres a lot more content here for a start & a better layout & format , im just exploring the whole site at the moment and ive gotta say i really like it HH & ablabs.

Being the historical nut that I am, I would love to be able to search skins by Air Force, Group or Squadron when trying to find an obscure allied marking this is where I go -> http://www.armyairforces.com/dbunitsearch.asp

No secret here I'm an MTO nut. So, if I wanted to find all of the aircraft used by the 52nd FG aircraft (I know they were Spits and P51's) I'd get all the skins I needed.


Another neat Idea would be for all of us skinner to agree on some naming convention that we could uphold. For instance take as an example this ficticious name: P38J-BozoTheClown.bmp

Does not tell me much and it's impossible to wear correct skins when flying on line with my buds

Hey everyone. Me, as the first refugee, expect less permanent ban for having an opinion, and ..well..basically I expect this to remind me of the good old il2skin forum mood, and i think it will I dont flood out much public skins recently, so I only would like to see a nice friendly forum

The only thing I don't see is a direct link to upload and download skins
I bet there is a very good reason for this too. . .,but being a thicky X-UBI zoo squalor I missed it?

I got lazy!! Besides, I live in the UK and people were always getting confused thinking I was living in Texas!!

Cost...simple as that. When I stared Simpaint (another skinning site) up it was just a forum hosted on free webspace. We had something like 200mbs of bandwidth a month to play with. I couldn't believe how quickly it started getting used up!! And we were only getting a couple of posts a day when we were busy. Put skins on the site and bandwidth costs would skyrocket. The other annoying thing with hosting skins is people would just visit the site to grab a bunch of skins and then leave. They would bring nothing to the site and would contribute nothing. At il2skins.com, we had 50,000+ registered users. Out of them maybe 100 contributed on the forum and approx 400 uploaded skins. That leaves 49,500ish that just came to download skins

We did talk about it a while back and it was a possibility but a)its expensive b) nobody wants to be stuck with a bill for massive bandwidth like Sharx was, and c) it would take a lot of work to set up and several members of the team were not in a position to make that sort of commitment. Who knows what the future will bring, like I said I wouldn't rule anything out. Ideally I would like to see the site grow to be a one stop shop for all flight sims so you could download skins for il2/pf or planes for MSFS etc..... Its a nice dream but would cost mega bucks!! I'll shut up, I've probably said too much already

Monguse, which skins do you want to be able to search?? Do you mean like a skin directory for certain skins on different sites?? Vig was talking about something similar earlier.....would be a massive amount of work
