Text along Path (GIMP)

I've always used the Text Tool (in GIMP) to place text on a skin. However, I was interested in the 'Text along Path' feature. I got it to work fine but I'm not sure how I can actually use it.

Problem 1: The text looks good, but is basically just the outline of letters in silly pink and blue colors of the path line itself. How can I change the color of the outline?

Problem 2: The letters themselves are clear, just outlined in pink/blue. I obviously would like to paint the letters, but can't find a way to do that. Tools like Paintbrush or Fill do nothing. Is it possible to paint the inside area of the leters?

Problem 3: Even these pink/blue outlines of text do not show up on my skin. So what the heck are they good for?

I'm kind of stumped right now. I have this good looking text but it's clear and outlined in silly pink and blue and I can't seem to do anything else with it.

Re: Text along Path (GIMP)

The pink and blue lines you see are vector lines. They are the same as any other vector lines you draw in GIMP. They have their own layer stack on the paths dialog, where they can be edited and ordered, and even hidden from view (toggle the off with the "eye" icon).

What the lines are good for, are editing the letter shapes. If you right click on the text layer on the paths stack, and click "Path Tool", you'll notice that the vector text will be broken into editable nodes and lines.

To fill the empty path letters with paint, right click on the vector text layer in the paths stack, and choose "Path to Selection". Now choose the appropriate raster layer in the stack, and begin painting.

Re: Text along Path (GIMP)

Thanks a lot. Unfortunately, I could not get it to work that way. However, when I tried adding a new layer, I was then able to paint the text.
