Feather...?

I've seen the term 'feather' in some non-GIMP tutorials. I'm not sure what it means and is there an equivalent feature in GIMP?

Re: Feather...?

Basically feathered edges help an image blend into the what ever layer or background it is sitting on top off. The edges are not a solid opacity it gradually fades the opacity inwards towards the object that has been feathered. You can change the amount that it feathers also. I would expect Gimp to have this feature maybe check the selection tools and look for a feathering setting or maybe in layers?

Hope this helps

Re: Feather...?

I didn't see it in GIMP so that's why I asked here.
