Coloured Frame for Plane Numbers?

Hallo All,

I'm working on skins in IL2 and I have a question for the plane numbers.

For the german planes I use the DIN1451 font but the coulour is unic only.

How can I easily create a red or black frame around the numbers?

I tryed it in WORD but the frame is too small.

I painted the frame manually in GIMP but the result is poor.

Have somebody an idear?

Thanks in advance and br

Nepo

Re: Coloured Frame for Plane Numbers?

Just to ensure I understand the effect you are trying to create, is it similar to the outlining shown in this tutorial? If so let me know, I recently had a link to a GIMP tutorial on this subject.

Ah OK, well I have not written a tutorial on that topic myself yet. I do have a link which you might find useful though, at an external site. Hope this helps!

Re: Coloured Frame for Plane Numbers?

Hi guys
Found a Youtube vid that shows a text tutorial that would be perfect for making Luftwaffe Outline Numbers with Gimp 2.6.
IMPORTANT
This Tutorial is NOT specific to IL-2 Sturmovik so there a few task to perform that are not mentioned.

1..When selecting New Image click on Advanced Options Tab and Transparency for background.
Now follow steps shown in video until 1:07.

2..When using Grow Tool opt for 2 Pixels.

3..To copy/Paste onto skin, highlight Background Layer and press Eye this will remove background colour
to reveal Transparent checkerboard.
In Tools box select
Rectangular marquee tool and drag around Font then right click and select Copy visible then Paste onto Skin.

Cheers
CM6
