Exclamation PSP Alpha Channel Tutorial

A typical start position, a partially-transparent layer with a solid background layer.

First, turn off any background layers.

Next, create a new mask from the partially-transparent layer.

Now select source opacity as the mask source (experiment with other settings when you get the hang of it)

The mask will appear in a new group - the white portions of the mask will be visible, the black will be transparent.

Now you must save the mask to the alpha channel...

by selecting the "SAVE" button

and then save the image in TGA format. Some applications may require an uncompressed TGA; you can set this in the OPTIONS box shown below.

Looks great Vig. With your approval can I adapt this for addition to our articles library?

Re: PSP Alpha Channel Tutorial

Vigilante,

Great tutorial!

Although I have paint shop pro 7 I was able to follow along on without trouble, my screen layout is just a little different. My creation of a mask is identical to yours however, when I convert to a .tga I still get a white background.

Redband, if you are unsure whether the TGA is ok, email it to me.

Re: PSP Alpha Channel Tutorial

Ok, this has been submitted into the articles section. If there are any changes to be made Vig, just PM me.

PS for Vig- All images have been re-hosted on the site server so your webspace can be freed up.
