Pasting an area

First of all let me state that I DON'T want to change the template. Is there a way of coping an area of a template/skin that I've worked on and keeping it aside so that I can paste it onto another template/skin? I've worked on one area of an template/skin. This involved much tedious work at the one pixel size and finally took three hours on this one area. What I'd like to do is copy and save this area and paste it onto another template/skin instead of doing all that work over again each time I make a skin. I then can simply fit the new area onto the new skin and flood paint it, changing the values as needed to fit each new skin while keeping the tedious part. This would save me much time. Layers work with the entire skin at once, what I'd prefer is only this particular area of the fuselage and paste it and then align it.

Re: Pasting an area

I'm checking up on this, I'll post what I find later today. I know it's possible in several other programs, but I want to check up on what the process is in PSP first.

Re: Pasting an area

Ok, I didn't find what I was looking for, but I'll go at it anyway.

Firstly, is the artwork you wish to paste on a single layer? If so, then you can save this area separately, and then paste it in as you wish.
  • First, simply make a marquee selection around your artwork.
  • Next, use the 'copy' command to copy that selection to clipboard.

From here, there are two possible ways to paste it out.
  • First, look in the 'File' menu for a 'Paste as new' command. This should creata a new file with your pasted area already inside.

If it does not, or you cannot find that menu item, you can do this manually.
  • Just create a new empty PSP file that is large enough to hold the artwork (say 300x300 pixels, something like that). Now paste your artwork into that new file.

Either way, save your new file. Now it's separate, and you can open it later for pasting into any other project.

Of course... if you don't need to have this artwork in a separate file, you can simply dupicate the layer that contains the artwork, and then manipulate it as you wish.

Hope this helps.

EDIT: Wow... my 1,000th post!

Re: Pasting an area

The area that I want to save is on one Layer. Now when you say marquee selection. I can use the selection tool and either use "freehand' or the "selection" which uses an area I can maupulate to the size I need or even the "magic wand". I'll give that a try to find out which works best. I would prefer to have the saved work area on a seperate file to have at hand when ever I need to open it and apply it to other skins. I'll let you know about the results. thanks again. By the way how many of those 1,000 posts are replies to mine? LOL. I've just opened the layer that contains the work I want to save. I would like to save this layer and have it as a new file or command in my PSPX. So that whenever I open PSPX that layer will always be there to open and apply to new skins.
