Opening paintkits in PSP7

Hi all. Just a quick one regarding backwards compatibility of paintkits. I have some paintkits that only open is PSD or PSP9 but I only use PSP7. When I try to open them in 7 I either get error 155 (I Think) or This is not a valid paintshop pro file even though it opens in 9. Is there any way of sorting this as I don't really want to have to teach myself another program just for these paintkits?????? I'm guessing its the OS of the graphics editors but I'm not sure. Any help would be appreciated. many thanks in advance. Ross

Re: Opening paintkits in PSP7

The most basic work around would be trying to open and resave the files in GIMP. Or if you have PSP9, try to open the PSD, then resave the file as a Paintshop Pro layered format.

BTW, as I understand, this issue is related to the PSD file containing proprietary layer content. Things like vector paths, adjustment layers, or nested layers. If you find something like that inside when opening it with PSP9 or GIMP, you might try to simplify those layers and hope it doesn't break too much.

Re: Opening paintkits in PSP7

Hi mate. Cheers for the info. I've played around with PSP9 and have found that if I open something in it that I want to use in 7 when I save it as a PSP file there's an options box at the bottom of the save window. If I click on that it gives me the options to save so it's compatible with earlier versions of PSP! . On certain paint kits you lose some of the layers you mentioned but they're all still usable. There's only a couple that won't open. It's paved the way for some new GA models that haven't been painted before in FS2004. Thanks again. Ross
