Corel PSP X/XI & spyware?

Found a service & process running I couldn't identify - PSIservice.exe

Looked it up on the internet & it's the licencing verifyer for PSP. Ok fine, but why is it running & not terminating a process & why is it setting up a service to run ... all without telling me? Seems PSIservice.exe is actually Protexis Software ... an electronic ******ising company. Spyware? Adware? No thanks. Guess I'll be sticking with Jasc PSP9 then

Glad I found this out on the demo version ...!

Re: Corel PSP X/XI & spyware?

Ok get this - with a minimal amount of web research & fiddling I now have XI.11 demo running without Protexis Licencing process or service snooping around my PC ... and you know what? PSP Is about 10x faster.
Used to take about up to 3 minutes to start, it now starts in under 5 seconds :-/
I wonder if the same could be done with a full version

Sounds a bit like the old MSN and Outlook thing.
A good heads up for PSP users though.

Re: Corel PSP X/XI & spyware?

Apparently it doesn't do anything ... but software from an ******ising company used as licencing? What the hey?

Tell you what - everything to do with PSP is noticeably quicker without that trash running ...

Re: Corel PSP X/XI & spyware?

Is this part of the full version, or just the demo?

Re: Corel PSP X/XI & spyware?

All of them apparently. Open taskmanager & look for PSIservice.exe then go into your services & look for a Protexis Licencing service that starts automatically. There's also 2 files in your windows/system32 related to it ...

Protexis' own webpage - they call themselves 'online digital content distributors' ... another Boonty I guess, yet they say there's nothing fishy going on

Re: Corel PSP X/XI & spyware?

Snake, I recall some issue about sometimes this folder being hidden but can't recall the fix right off hand.

BTW... did you make sure that you looked inside the 'windows' folder? That's where my 'system 32' folder is at.
