Solution for font problem

Hi all,

A while back there was a discussion about fonts not working in photoshop.

The font was working on my machine after someone sent me a different version. Turns out that wasn't due to the fact that the file was different at all.

Well, just tried making a new marking. Guess what...just the D and B were working, no other letters and when I was testing stuff, photoshop crashed.

So, after some more experimentation, I found out that if you open the font properties window, you need to make sure that all the T's at the bottom are DISABLED !!! I had mine set non standard text which caused the font to fail and photoshop to crash.

Problem solved.

Wiek

Re: font trouble, solution found

Hi Wiek,

Good find.
I reproduced several errors with the RAF and RCAF fonts when enabeling those options. And likely other fonts we share are designed in a simple way so they do not support those font properties.

Errors I got were:
quote start
Quote:
quote end
Could not complete your request because of a program error
and

quote start
Quote:
quote end
Font engine could not be initialised
After I did succesfully enter a font with properties like Bold or Italics.
Sometimes I got erratic behaviour like letters not appearing etc.

Re: Solution for font problem

Have installed the RAF WW2 font that I downloaded from here, but it doesn't show in Photoshop? (I use CS2), the font style appears and is selectable but when I type nothing shows....
All the "T"s were disabled in the properties screen so I have no clue what might cause this problem?

Re: Solution for font problem

You can select the fonts in Photoshop I understand.
The numbers should at least work if you type them. Letters is a bit different: in most cases only the lowercase works, but for osme of the fonts it's the uppercase that works.

Since these fonts do not support the properties (the T's) as mentioned above, CS2 probably finally disables them to prevent problems like Photoshop crashing.

Re: Solution for font problem

Neither upper nor lowercase show, the numbers do work...
What's the alternative as this font type is exactly the one I need...

Can I print them and scan them ? How to I make them "ready" for use with Photoshop??
Sorry to be a pain in the..., but I working on my first repaint and need to learn a lot..
Can you eg scan a modelkit's decalsheet and use them for repainting?

Re: Solution for font problem

For that font the lowercase should work. Typing uppercase gives no letters.
Double chek that you have all T's (see screenshot above) disabled. If you got another PS version which is a bit different: make sure you have no Bold Italics etc. on.

Re: Solution for font problem

As far as I know, some of the historical fonts aren't presented in bold or italic since they were not found that way often if ever in practice?
