An easy way to do this is to look at your layer pallet.
to the right is an eye or some other Icon which, when ticked hides that particular layer.
Turn off all layers except the ones you wish to merge.
Highlight one of the layers which are still open. Now check to see if there are any other layers still left open which you do not want to merge.
Once your secondary check is complete, place your cursor over one of your open layers and right click.
Options will appear, one of them being merge all visable layers.
Click that and it will merge all open layers into one.
Now, right click and scroll down to rename layer, give your new layer a name and save, done!
Its fast and simple, no mus no fuss.
