Directional Blur Tool Available?

Hi;

I'm looking for a directional blur tool for Photoshop (something that will work with 5.0 - sorry, but I'm a bit behind the times.) I'll explain.

I want to be able to do weathering with a bit more speed. On a typical aircraft (at least one that hasn't been washed lately) small streaks develop from panel lines and rivets. I figure if I have a directional blur tool, I can simply copy my rivet pattern, then apply the directional blur tool and voila! Instant weathering (well, at least one aspect of weahtering, anyway. )

So I'm looking for a directional blur tool, preferably freeware, but cheap would also do the job. Anyone know of a good one? I've done the Google search thing, and actually came up with a few, but they seem a bit pricey, and I'd at least like to know if what I'm getting would do what I want it to BEFORE I plunk down my money......

thanks!

Paul

Menu Filter - Blur - Motion blur.
Set the angle and amount and that should do it.

Not sure about PS 5, but the blur tools are in PS for a long time allready.

Re: Directional Blur Tool Available?

Hi Serval;

I've attached an example of what I am looking for. The motion blur just gives a blur back and forth - I want something that will take a point of color, and in a single direction, blur it to nothing - similar to an exhaust stain on an aircraft. It would be nice to be able to focus the end of the blur (wide versus narrow.) I suppose you might refer to it as a windblown effect. I do this all now by hand, a very tedious and time-consuming process, using the brush tool and fade to transparent - and of course, if you are not absolutely straight, it is time to start all over again.
It would be very nice to be able to apply points of color to the texture and use a filter to "pull" or blow these points into streaks going from color to transparent......

Thanks!

Paul

Re: Directional Blur Tool Available?

just make a brush from your attached example

other solution: copy the layer where you want to add your blur, move it and turn down the opacity. make this a few times, collapse the layers and add gaussian blur.

are you using a graphic tablet?

Re: Directional Blur Tool Available?

Hi;

thanks for your reply. Not using a tablet, just a plain old mouse.

That technique would work also, just a little more time-consuming than I wanted. But that gets me half-way to where I want to be, short of a wind blur or directional blur.

Thanks!

Paul
