Masking problems

Hi there,

So...this has bothered me for a looong time, ever since I started doing profiles, tried to fight it my way
but seeing there are people here with more advanced approach, I just need to ask.
Do weird too light or too dark lines occur to you too on the border of two masked area ? Here is what I am talking about:
Name: f1.jpg
Views: 100
Size: 32.6 KB
and
Name: f2.jpg
Views: 99
Size: 35.6 KB

Mind you, I dont really use live spline masks in Photoshop, I make them in Illustrator and export the shapes to Photoshop but as rasterised shapes. Might this be the only cause ? Because no matter what i do to the masks, I cannot make them perfect (ok i can but then I have to go through every jagged line with a 1x1 pencil and paint each and every single faulty looking pixel )

Re: Masking problems

How did Jester sort it? I'd have just imported the path as vector and loaded a selection from it or use a vector mask but always nice to know different methods.

Re: Masking problems

As I suspected the problem was my method which i have been using all along, rasterized masks which werent identical where they were supposed to be identical (due to the jagged lines) He said he was using overlapping masks which is a bit more pain when it comes to changing paintschemes but are problemless with mask...basically he masks the fuselage, comes a paint layer and all the shading, then on top of that is lets say a wing paint layer and then wing 3d masked after the wing paint layer. Im not sure if I managed to get it through to you but it was helpful for me. And thanks goes to Ronnie too as he was the one who told Jester

Seems to be working just fine...but ill give the vector approach a go as well - guess that havent caused u the same problem ?

Re: Masking problems

Never had an issue as I can hide one layer or if the selection is inversed then there is no issue with overlap.

One day when I have time (ha ha) I'll try to put something together to explain what I mean with the pictures.

Most people won't even notice however you do it anyway.
