I tried reducing the rez but the file looks like S---.

Re: Question?

What kind of file are you trying to post, a .JPG?

If you are talking about posting an image attachement in your forum posts, then a file with the .JPG extension can be uploaded at 1280x1280 resolution and max 400kb filesize.

Re: Question?

Because some people do upload very large images, which mess up de readability of the site, we use a Javascript that displays the images at 750 px width max.
Any larger image is resized by that javascript. This also goes for images hosted on other servers, all of them are being resized. Since your browser does that resize "on the fly" the quality of the image is low. You can recognize those images by the dotted line around them. Clicking on them will open a pop-up which displayes the image at it's original size and quality.

But I wonder what the problem is with this one? http://www.simmerspaintshop.com/foru....html#post5862

At least the service is offered, I think it's a very good picture posting service too considering this site is free. Most forums don't offer it at all, you're on your on if you want to post an image.
I, for one, thank Simmer's for letting us host our images here

Re: Question?

Since I'm not sure where you try to upload, to the gallery or the forum, I tried one of your images in both the gallery and the forum. See the links below.

Please give some more details about your problem.

Re: Question?

Sorry Billy, it sounded like you were saying that this site just wasn't good enough or something like that. I misunderstood

Re: Question?

No. I think the site is great and thats why I wanted to post. It's not the site it's the dumb a-- artist(me) trying to post. I just can't get the files to get below the recomended size. I even copied the Mig kill file of which somehow I got it to post, and pasted a new piece over the file save it and it was still to big.

Re: Question?

Well getting the file size down is easy if you've got Photoshop. Just use the save for web feature(I think the keyboard shortcut is CTL+ALT+Shift+S for this), or anything that has a jpg export preview (GIMP even has one). Then just lower the compression slider a few points until you're under the filesize limit. There will be a filesize calculator on this export dialog, so you can see what it's estimated to save at.
