Nice chick!

About 70 years of age and still flying!

Due to my recent scale modelling subject, I got really interested in PBY's. So I looked up a few pictures I made from Flying Legends and other airshows. This aircraft is painted in Dutch colors (obviously) wich where used after the war, in the police actions in Indonesia. The anti-ice boots are not supposed to be there, from an historic point of view but are probably installed anyways for the European theatre it is in. It was rather impressive seeing two of these behemoths flying together. They dominated the sky above Duxford, with a little blue bearcat bouncing all around.

Beauty hey?

Nice shots. too bad you have the shutter speed a little too fast on the second pic. Looks like an engine failure now
When props are involved I prefer a fixed shutter speed to be sure to get a nice moving prop idea.

I have a Panasonic FZ-10. I left everything on automatic. I turned auto-focus off, to save the battery endurance. All of my Duxford pics are on manual focus. When taking a pic of a flying subject, I just focus in on a certain point, just beyond the runway. With that setting, I photographed most of the flying display. In the case of the Catalina formation, it is a rather large subject and was tricky to pre-focus.

Re: Nice chick!

I bought a digital Minolta S414 some years ago, which replaced my Canon EOS SLR flim camera. The Minolta does allow for manual focus, shutter, and aperature settings, but still I prefer the old Canon for fast easy use. Someday when digital SLRs fall into my price range I might get back to that. (Or just use the old Canon SLR!)

Re: Nice chick!

I take 4 megapixel pics and I have two SD cards of 256Mb. Flying legends is two days so, that's one SD card a day, not really all that much. But the maximum number of pictures was determined by battery life instead I got the two cards ALMOST full.

You might want to have a look for a second hand 300D/350D or older Nikon, they are pretty cheap now that the 400D has been released. A mate of mine picked a 300D up at a great price, E-bay is a good source
