Wings of Prey is now skinnable...

The sim Wings of Prey is now skinnable. I know this sim probsbly hasn't gotten much in the way of props from the die hard simmers.. but visually it is about the closest thing to flight sim **** you can find.. It is a treat for the eyes.. and even as a sim, although it is still missing some key elements like a mission builder... of any kind, full quick or whatever.. it is still a decent enough product to warrant dropping the equivalent to beer money for a week, or two and giving it a go. The developersd are promising a sequel that will contain much of the missing elements of the sim. It is not IL2.. and it is not as .... complete as IL2 was.. or is especially now that it has been modded and many of the gaps in it have been filled by modders, but it is as a I said a decent enough piece of kit to warrant any simmer's attention.

They just released a skin kit for it.. so far we can skin

BF 109 G2
FW 190 A5
Hurricaine MkIIB
SpitfireMkIIB
P-51D
P-40E
P-47D
P-39N
Blenhiem Mk4
La-7
Spitfire Mk IX
Spitfire Mk XVI

The P-47D and P-51D templates are very similar to the ones in IL2 but there are differences.. below you will find some screenshots I made and a link to a video by Mysticpuma of a 325th Mustang skin that he made.

All shots taken with official templates..

Notice the sunken ship in the harbor.. I just noticed that the other night..

Sorry for the sizer of these two.. I thought I had reduced them.. but it's late and I must have missed them.. I will start working on some historical 332nd skins soon...

Mind you now.. this video was made with and IL2 template resized to 12048x2048.. at the time the official P-51 template was not released.. but since then it has been..

Re: Wings of Prey is now skinnable...

I have edited the original post to reflect the added skin tools. Wop has issues as a sim. It is not garbage, but it lacks a mission builder and many other basic features that we who have been simming in IL2 have come to take for granted and the way it is set up now the skins that you make are not the same as in IL2.. if you replace a skin it becomes the skin for all the planes in that category... which is a drag, However.. visually at this point in time it has absolutely no equal.. I believe that the SoW series will eclipse it.. but for now visually it cant be beat.. not only that it is a good starting point for skinners who are used to the limitations of IL2. If for no other reason than the skinning.. (I happen to like the simming, although it is not anything like IL2.. it has it's.... strong points..) I highly reccommend that anyone who plans to skin in SoW get hold of this sim. The devs say they will offer an update.. but I imagine that it is a daunting task and is taking time.. remember this sim started as IL2 Birds of Prey.. a console sim.. so keeping that in mind.. consider it.

I'm having trouble with the Skin Tool application I downloaded from youplay..when I run it Windows gives me an error message saying that it is not a valid WIN32 application ..I was hoping I could repaint the P-51 and the P-47 as I had done for many years with FS9 but this sim is quite a different situation altogether...where can I get the skin tool + tutorial if any I'm willing to pay for it. . . . also the Wings of Prey software is extremely thin as far as how to configure the program and its different features...by the way is there a command for opening the canopy...I see a lot of videos in youtube showing WOP where the canopy is opened and closed...hmmm...how did they do that...I also downloaded the F-86 and MIG-15 but I need another unzip tool that is not WINzip ! . . .I wonder who's making money other than Gijian ! . . .I'm still enjoying the WOP as it comes..it is impressive ! . . still....any help here is welcomed . . .

What version of Windows are you running?
If itīs a 64 bit version, did you try compatibility mode?
