Re: Thud !!!

Thanks Clint. in Vietnam they fittet very long fuses on Mk 82 bombs when they where drop on personnel. The idea was that the bomb would explode a few feet above the ground and thereby inflict more damage on surrounding personnel. hereīs a scale model that carries that kind of bombs: http://lh5.ggpht.com/_lasYjztKdHA/Rt...5fE/f105da.jpg

Thanks

Re: Thud !!!

They're called "daisy cutter" fuses. The idea is to use all the bomb's energy to mow down its immediate surroundings rather than use that enrgy to create a big crater.
Here seen underneath my favourite plane: http://roadrunnersinternationale.com...1e-2_lores.jpg

Some more images of the Mk 82:

PS. Here's a rather extreme case of daisy cutting... the BLU-82 Daisy Cutter, the largest conventional bomb ever dropped on enemy forces by the US:

Re: Thud !!!

AP,

You're almost there, mate!! Really nice job on that upper wing problem!!

Don't know if you intend to change it, but take a look at how the spine of the aircraft joins the base of the vertical tail as shown in the photo. Take down the upper fuselage line to show the spine as it approaches the tail, you'll have it.

Absolutely beautiful job! Congratulations.

Re: Thud !!!

Hey AP, I should have noticed this earlier-
Take a look at your speed brakes (?) or whatever those are at the end of the jet exhaust. Actually, the whole rear fuselage. It looks pretty flat through the mid section between the too red lines I've drawn.

The real thing is pretty near round by the end of the jet exhaust. Or I should say a continuous rounded oval with no flat areas. The rear fuselage is much more rounded than you've shaded it too I think.
Take a look at see what you think.

Re: Thud !!!

Hereīs the latest update of the Thud. I think itīs starting to get there. I tried to make it appear more rounded in shape according to Blowhards advise. How do you think it looks ?

Thanks for your help along the way !
