Tee Bee Dee One

Yo,

This little beauty also attacked Lae, New Guinea, on 10 Mar 1942, for an article I have been researching for over two years. Must say I'm not a Navy guy, but the markings are reasonbly accurate. Markings are those of VT-5 however only the VT-2 TBDs carried torpedos that day. Anyone have the VT-2 markings of the day ? My reference line drawing was'nt the best, but end product looks OK,

Comments lads?

MC

Thumbs up Re: Tee Bee Dee One

On the way back through the Sunshine Gap (lowest safe 7,600 ft) to two waiting carriers, Lexington and Yorktown, the TBD lads opened their hatches to take advantage of the scent of fresh jungle air. And in the process showcased GFR's twin 30 cal machine guns . . .

Nice. But it seems a bit dark to me? I'm not talking of specific colours, just the overall looks. The white stripes on the tail look light grey, except for the forward, slanted, one which looks white. Same is true for the fuselage star.

Agreed with Gaëtan, perhaps calibrate your monitor if it looks lighter on your end

Re: Tee Bee Dee One

That torpedo looks like it's about to fall off!

I built a model of the TBD years ago and I remember there being a fairing or bracket of some sort that they used when carrying torps. I can't find a good photo, but here's a model showing what I mean.

Is there ribbing on the wings? It's difficult to tell at this resolution.
