Stampe WIP

I'm working on this for a friend: a 1949 Stampe SV.4A. It still needs work but I thought I'd ask you gentlemen your opinion. Bring out your guns and open fire!

Re: Stampe WIP

Is this plane related to a tigermoth? Because it looks a lot like it! The shadows look accurate but what I am really missing are the highlights.

Re: Stampe WIP

I wouldn't be surprised if the Stampe was inspired by the Tiger Moth: it does indeed look very much like one.

You're right for the highlights, as I haven't started doing them yet. I haven't finished the shades either in fact. I'm going to try to improve the spine as you said santynus. I'll have to study more closely some pictures though. I'm having difficulties with the rear fuselage, which is canvas-covered. I'll post again when I've worked on it some more.

Re: Stampe WIP

My eye is drawn to that top wing. Something is going on there which isn't quite right, looks like a false perspective or something. Any chance of seeing what you are working from?

Re: Stampe WIP

The top wing's shading is very incomplete as of now (and so is the lower wing in fact). As for what I'm working from, I'm not sure what you mean.

I started with a not-too-bad line-view drawing of the SV.4A which has been corrected extensively using pictures of the bird (you can find some on airliners.net also by searching F-BCXD). I also have walkarounds of other sister Stampes.

The owner has just mailed me further mods he wants carried out: a change in the rudder's shape, more slope on the engine cowling and a few other minor changes. I don't agree with all of those, but he knows the plane better than I do, and he's the "end customer" anyway. Even though I'm just being paid in beer and airplane rides .

Here is a lo-quality pic of it:

Mail me if you want a zip with all the material I have.

Re: Stampe WIP

I should have called this Stame WISP for Work in Slow Progress...

Here is an updated version, with shorter nose and improved lighting. The top wing still needs addressing...

Re: Stampe WIP

Thanks, Santino. Must be great fun to fly. I took the advice Blowhard gave me on the SB's wing and used it here and it looks better IMO. There are still some things to work on, but it's getting closer:

Re: Stampe WIP

I'm bumping this thread as I've taken the SV.4 drawing to draw a new bird:

This aircraft is based in Margny-les-Compiègne, 20 minutes from where I live. It was restored by an classic aircraft association that has settled there and has various restoration projects planned.

I've improved the drawing a bit but my technique has evolved so much in 2+ years that I can't do much better without redrawing it from scratch.
