Reworking on an old drawing

A friend of mine asked me for a print of an old F-86 I drew a long time ago. I couldn't believe how bad it is. Thank God, I've learned stuff since then. Anyway, I figured I would show the old and new version just for the fun of it:




There is still lots of room for improvement, but no time so I'll stick to that. I'm not too unhappy with the end result anyway. If I kept up, I would have redrawn the whole thing.

I thought maybe other profilers who have improved some of their older drawings could also post them in this thread. Of course, people who have drawn superlative Spitfires and Zeroes and then improved them (99% perfection to 99.3%) needn't apply.

I thought it could make for an amusing thread on how we can improve our technique.

Far better ! The metal effect is really good on the updated version !
If i may i have one comment to make on the shadings: The wings shadow on the droptank should (in my oppinion), fade below the center line (the horizontal symetry line of the tank) of the droptank. The shade of the wing can't reach the lower half of the tank (if the light comes from above the aircraft). This also is the case for the horisontal stabelizers shade on the fuselage.
Anyway, In my oppinion, your eally have done some great work here !! Well done !

Your new rendering is far and away the best. Though some work is still needed on the shading, it's a beautiful rendition of a non-prop (GASP!!!) aircraft and one of my faves.

Great improvement! Attached Ju 87 G-2 I have done in 2001 and 2007! The new drawing isn't really a reworked version of the old one.

Nice one, Simon! The difference is quite impressive indeed.

@Aircraftprofiles: you're right on the shading. It shouldn't go lower than the centerline, but the shadin on the tank should also go higher (up to the centerline). Anyway, there are so many things to do on it that I decided to leave it as is. The best thing would be to redraw a new F-86 template, but that will be for another day.

Funny: a year ago, I dreaded NMF aircraft and now I think they are more fun than to draw painted ones. I must be ready to draw a 104 I think... lol
