People profiles???

No really a profile but I was inspired by Ugo flight/ground crews and Martin's D.VII crew. I couldn't let them have all the fin since I enjoyed painting people and portraits with traditional paint in a former life. (David Douglass Illustration) I decided to give it a try too.
Basically a repaint of a photo, although I cobbled two different photos together.

I knew the face would be the worst and if I could get an ok result, I could do the rest easy. A few more tweaks and adjustments to his face are in order. It isn't a perfect likeness but if you know von Schleich's face, you'd know it was him.
He'll look pretty snappy standing by a profile of his Albatros

Doing organic objects isn't too easy in Photoshop with a mouse!!! I think I need to save up and get a Cintiq, I might start up my illustration career again

Re: People profiles???

Do you really need a Cintiq? I've tried them a few times and prefer having a separate tablet, could just be that I'm used to that method.

What size is the face, at that size I'd say it still looks airbrushed but am sure that once it's scaled down and printed it'll look more than fine. Good luck with the rest of the costume.

On my side, I'm working from pictures too, but draw them in vectorial mode only. So it's completely manually done. It gives a very different style than using bitmap.

I'm using both the mouse and a graphic tablet.

Hey Ink, I've used tablets but I never liked them or got used to them. For me, it's the disconnect between the hand/pen and the screen more than the control of the pen. Of course the tablet would give me the control of pressure and size. But really for me I've never been able to draw or sketch on the computer because of the remote disconnected feeling I get. Maybe I'm just not computer art friendly?
And, I don't "need" one but I think I'd like one

I'm not sure if this is what you mean, but mine is manual too, if you consider using vectors masks and Photoshop airbrush as manual. No 3D was used
That's a nice portrait Stephane!

Re: People profiles???

Almost forgot, size; it's bigger than that, maybe by half or more, I'll check when I get home. It's not big enough for doing eyelashes or eyebrows easy :P

I know what you mean, was a bit uncomfortable when I first picked one up and getting used to it, but having used the mouse without thinking and looking at the screen it is a mix of that and normal drawing, it's what I tell my students when they first try one and sulk but quite a few fall in love with them after a few weeks. As for me, I think my tablet must be coming up to it's 10th anniversary and is the oldest bit of hardware I currently use.

And you do 'need' one, honestly

Re: People profiles???

As I have often said, if the pen and tablet had been invented first, the mouse would never been made. I personally have NEVER used a mouse. It would be like trying to draw or paint with a clenched fist. Mice (mouses?) have no pressure control. Mice are strictly for cats.

And for me because I rarely use a pen, like once or twice a year
