P-51D 1st ACG, 10th AF [WIP]

Hi all.

This is my P-51D of the 1st ACG, 10th Air Force which was flew its missions in IndiaBurma. This profile is still a WIP and I still have to work on some weathering and other stuff.

Hope you like it.

looks great. I would hate to do that scheme on a model.

Looks good. If you want to easily enhance the NMF effect, you could add a tiny bit of black or white to certain panels. That is an easy add-on with good results.

Looks like a promising start. Are you new to profiling? I can't recall seeing you around here before.

I'll definitely second what JMSmith said. It looks like you've started out with some line art. It's always a good idea to check it out against actual photos of the plane in question. There's a lot of supposedly accurate line art on the web that is actually dreadfully inaccurate.

I'd also avoid leaving an outline on any part of the plane. It looks like you've removed or hidden it on most of the fuselage, but you still have a line around the wings. It looks much better using shadows and highlights to define your shapes.

Hi again. Thanks for all the helpful tips you've given me.

Yes, I am new to profiling and to the forums.

Here is an updated version.

And in reply to JMSmith I'm using GiantFlyingRobot's P-51 to 'Get the shape right'.

Thanks once again.

If that's the case John doesn't have a leg to stand on, as mine is (of course) mm perfect.

Things that you might want to consider.

Draw your profiles as large as you can(I'm guessing that this one is quite small) around 7-10X4K @300Pixels seems to be the consensus around here.

Try not to rely on your lines layer, for your shape definition. I personally prefer not to use one.

Use lots of layers.

Go easy on your weathering until you get your shading right. That probably sounds ridiculous coming from me.

Try and refrain from adding unit markings to early, they tend to cover areas that are in need of attention, no matter how tempting it might be.

Your Mustang looks remarkably similar to my first attempt. Stick at it, and post WIP's, there are some really great artists with lots of knowledge to be found here.

...Oh, and never be satisfied, with what you've done.
