Joe, I think that's a later variant of the P-40. The P-40/P-40B/P-40C had two guns in the nose, and the arming handles of these extended to the cockpit, so the pilot could arm them.

I finally figured why I was having difficulties: there were two variants of the reflector plate on these aircraft (US and UK versions). I've also done a few minor corrections.

It was slightly weathered, yes. The exhaust staining surprised me but the pictures show it just that way...

As far as I can find, the P-40B -C did not have a standard reflector gun sight delivered from the factory. Most photos of the Tomahawk do not show any. Only after the later D-E instrument panel redesign did an area for a reflector mount area become standard. Operational units installed makeshift configurations in the field of various electronic sights at the time.

My understanding too. Most AVG P-40 seemed to have been equipped with a reflector sight placed aft of the armoured windscreen. The US versions had a similar device, but placed forward of the armoured glass.

Guys, I have a question. I'm working on R.T. Smith's #47 and I don't know what colours to use.

I'm not opening the AVG colours debate again. I hate colour arguments and I don't believe there is an answer to that question anyway. At least not one that anybody will find now.

Mostly, my question is: which one do you prefer?

Version 2 with alternate colours:

I might use yet another set of colours.

If anyone wants to suggest other colours, I'm open to discussion.
