Ladies and gentlemen, please rise for a P-40 with... wings.

Still lots of work to be done, but it now actually begins to look like a P-40. At least, I hope so.

I've always heard that they should be Insignia Blue. Sometimes in B&W photos the blue is dark enough that it's mistaken for black. In any case, the application of "US ARMY" was stopped in the spring of 1942.

The only BH influence here is the wing. OK: on the rest of the aircraft also.

I believe I made most of my progress by studying other artists' work (most of them right here on SPS).

I've finished the template:

I only need to find good pictures of the gunsight reflector plate which is next to the armoured glass. Can anyone help?

Next stop: Welch's aircraft at the time of the attack on Pearl Harbour. Does anyone have pictures, or at least know the s/n of that aircraft?

WOW fast work GaŽtan! Love the rippling around the rivets on the under surfaces of the wing. Only critique I could add is that the wheel looks a bit flat, perhaps add some shading to the rims and the wheel. It looks totally awesome!

Re: P-40 Warhawk

I guess I should rework that wheel a little, indeed. It's a nuisance to draw correctly at this angle. For once, it's easier to draw this aircraft with the gear down instead than up.

I've also added a highlight to bring out the nose's shape.

Here's Welch's aircraft during the Pearl Harbor attack:
Name: US, P-40B, 41-XXXXX, 2Lt George Welch, 47 PS, 15 PG, 1941.jpg

The markings are based on other aircraft from the unit and educated guesses as there are not that many pictures to use, and none of the actual aircraft. Prewar rudder stripes have been overpainted in OD. I figured the aircraft should be moderately weathered only. Although they were flying a lot, they weren't under wartime conditions yet.

Next one will probably be Welch's wingman, Ken Taylor. It looks very similar to Welch's aircraft. One big question is the code it carried: according to most sources it should be 155, but some claim it is 316. Anybody have a clue?
