Not a Lufty

Took over wife's old Dak project this week and although she'd done most of the shape lines and rivets, these did need "some" editing. With the overall lighting done and some detail, its time for a show for fellow simmers to pick at. I think she (wife) started with the line art from Ospreys something of the something, but its such a long time ago since either of us looked at it we cant be sure.

As you can see, I am working from front to back, so quite a bit of work to do still. All the same, I am open to critique.

BTW, what happened to Uploadit.org, all of my online images are now dead?

Re: Not a Lufty

Looking good so far, you could do a Lufty one though because I think the germans captured some KLM ones.

Re: Not a Lufty

This is really nice: neat and accurate...
The only thing I'm not sure of is that horizontal fuselage shade: it makes it to seem more like a big plastic model...
But I understand perfectly what you tried to achieve with that... Only the "methods" perhaps need to be revised... IMHO...
Other than that -- nice job...

I agree with Mangas, very nice Dakota but...seem to be to clean, straight out of the factory. To help you, here is my personal vision of a Dakote (Torch Operation)

Combining Jesters usual accuracy and the way the highlight is drawn, I cant help but to think that the fuselage is a 3D render, its has that kind of plasticy(did I just invent a word?) look so many 3D renders at WIP level exhibit.

Look forward to watching it evolve.

Re: Not a Lufty

Ha ha, I thought the modern avionics might give it away more than the super highlight, but sadly they were missed .
I plan to use this template for creating "currently flying show birds" only, so I'm afraid there will be little weathering to be added.

Sad to hear it looks like a model, I was purposely trying to move away from that look and do a more of a "painted by hand kinda thing".

So I'll have to brush it down a fair bit

Thanks for the comments, I will consider then all.

I'm telling her you said that!

Looks pretty good. Model or no, once you've finished it off and weathered it some it won't look so plastic-ish.
Very nice so far

Re: Not a Lufty

I think the 'plastic' look is down to the way it's rendered up very smoothly instead of the rougher look of the actual aircraft or brushed ways, can't you add some maps or something to break up the specular lighting and make it rougher?

Re: Not a Lufty

Its not a render, its a poor old CS3 production. All down to me sadly.

I've killed the highlight and will work up the panel line details this week to see if I can get some character into the boring surface.
