New guy with Hampden

Been lurking for a while now and very impressed with a lot of the work I've seen here, and now time to say hello and why not jump in with the following effort.

I'm having trouble finding the correct scheme for the top view but the side and front view seem to match up to other info and photos of the a/c in question.

Any feedback or info would be gratefully appreciated.

Nice work Inkworm, especially like the idea of drawing it from multiple sides. Was the wing really that thick?!

hi inkworm,

nice paintwork but thats where it ends please try to do the canopy and dorsal turret correctly, you will see the windscreen sides come down square with the fuselage they are not curved same with the turret, you could also reduce the width of the canopy but just a gnats, it should overlap but not by that much, but hey what do i know, i'm just a miserable old sod that don't draw anymore

Welcome Inkworm!

Nice work! Is it vector-based?

Re: New guy with Hampden

Thanks for all the welcomes and the responses

Firstly Gamary when you ask is it vector based, in pure terms no, not like this...

which apart from the initial pencil sketch is 100% Illustrator.

Instead I used some plans, traced it all out in Illustrator, imported the paths into photoshop to use as layer and group vector masks, combined with some normal layer masks and clipping masks so it is sort of vector based.

JMSmith I have taken on board some of the comments, the curve/bulge of the canopy which both the plan I used and the one you posted up seem to indicate is there but having had a closer look at the excellent photos seems to not be there, I used the warpaint book which it seems the illustrations also came from is actually incorrect so I need to do more homework next time.

I am however a little unclear about what exactly is meant by the curve on the turret, I'm probably missing something glaringly obvious. Despite this the criticism is greatly appreciated.

Finally Supah now that the plans seem incorrect on a couple of points I'm not so sure the wings really are that thick but I have found nothing as yet to contradict the fact.

Re: New guy with Hampden

hi inkworm,

the plans you used are from my friend richard, and he as got the cockpit wrong the dorsal turret sides should come down straight blending into the fuselage, when looking from the front they should be vertical, every drawing i have show this wrong they are seem to show the perspex curving inward creating a bulge.

supah,
yes mate the wing were really that thick!!!!!!! take a look at the whitley, there even thicker.

Re: New guy with Hampden

Awesome, the look like you could hide Cessna 150 fuselages in them! Cool eggplane Inkspot, do you have more of those?
