Naked Ladies Beware!!!

Now that I have got you attention

After reading and then contributing to Wh1skea's thread I got to thinking about doing my own Mustang Profile, which are pretty popular around here I see.(thats when I put the XVI on the back burner) One thing lead to another and I decided I would see how difficult it would be to convert a B to a C and a C into a D model's, so they could be used as blanks for a future production line.

Working this way opens some interesting options for other types, FW190 or ME 109 series, maybe a similar treatment for the spitfire, probably wouldn't work so well with the Hurricane though.

Same dimensions as the XVI.

Heres the result thus far. still very much a WIP.

Very nice! The metal work is pretty good so far, maybe a little too busy, or contrasty in a few spots. Great representation of both bare and painted metal!!!
One thing I'd REALLY like to see is a secondary color added to the shadow areas, not too much, mind you, just enough to make it come alive

BLOWHARD. Not entirely sure what you mean by a secondary colour in the shadow areas" are the shadows too monotone? Care to elaborate further on this or any other aspect of this profile? I would really appreciate it. I certainly would like it to come alive.

Re: Naked Ladies Beware!!!

Think of reflected colours. For me . . .
funny enough, I find a salmon pink works very well. No joke.

That's what I mean, er, not pink exactly, but some color You've got all sorts of nice colors going on the metal work, greens, yellows, blues, etc. Something other than black.
Perhaps make the colors of the metal richer and deeper in the shadow areas rather than just plain dark. Just a suggestion though, to keep them from looking so stark. They look nice the way they are though, don't get me wrong

Re: Naked Ladies Beware!!!

Nice work: the metal effect is very well done, and that's very hard to do. I'm not sure what you mean by converting a P-51B to a P-51C? They are rather identical, are they not?

I'd point out two minor details: you've added some highlight around the intake just below and behind the spinner. It looks as if the intake bulged away from the fuselage, which is the case but overdone and too sharp on your profile IMO:

Also, I think the ventral intake's shape is wrong. The part between the fuselage proper and the top section of the intake is "blended in" which was not the case on the actual aircraft:

I'm aware the pictures are nowhere near perfect but that's all I have at my disposition for the moment. I can find some more explicit ones if you need them.

Don't wait too late to render the different wing leading-edge root shapes between the B and D!!!
