Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-6/R2/R3, serial no. 26025, White 6
7./JG 3 'Udet' Bad Wörishofen 14 October 1943
The pilot of the 7./JG 3 'Udet' tried with their cannons on 14 October 1943, a major attack of Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress bombers of the 8th USAAF on Schweinfurt fend off. They started from an airfield at Bad Woerishofen, southeast of Augsburg and made from the 291 "4-Mot's"existing association on their way to Schweinfurt. It was the first major and successful use of the 21cm board rockets from aircraft. The Americans suffered on that day 77 total losses. 121 bombers were damaged, some seriously. The German fighter force lost a 50 machine. The "disaster Schweinfurt" led to a break in the U.S. day-offensive. For the city of Schweinfurt, and its population, it was one of the worst attacks of the 2nd World War II with devastating results.
My Profile shows the firing of a 21cm BR (board rocket).
