Its that time again.

Time to start a new profile, that is.

The long and winding road...

Re: Its that time again.

What can you tell me about Dupont colours that I might need to know? Its not something that I usually do much research on. I was just intending to use my approximation of O/D green.

Otter, I've PM'ed you.

hi GFR,

olive drab and nuetral gray where standard, the fun comes if you do a british one, Duponts idea of dark earth and dark green was something to be seen

HUH? How can you do a P-39 if you're only going to do a OD scheme??

OK, so it's a P-400 instead of a P-39! But in that case, How can you do a P-39 if you're not going to do a P-400???
Here's some great research-
Camouflage & Markings: Bell P-39 Airacobra in USAAF Service
Some stuff on color-
US export colors 1940-41, a dark place for me
I did a LOT of research when I did the paint fot Target Rabaul's P-400-P39...but unfortunately I can't remember most of it.
What I do know is the Earth is supposedly a little different, some say more brown, some say more red. I ended up with a brown that was slightly pink-ish. There is great debate about the underside color, but it's definitely not the green-ish Sky that the RAF used. It was either more sky-blue or just plain grey. I seem to remember something about the Brits originally wanting to return ALL of the P-400s to the US because they had gotten the colors SO wrong. I ended up going with a grey color but I can't remember what I had read that made me think so, it may have been something I had read in the Monogram USAAF color guide.

Re: Its that time again.

Hey...Good things come to those that wait.

You probably wont be surprised to hear that I have returned to my P-38's whilst I contemplate whats required for the new job.

Thanks for those links some interesting reading right there.

P.s. Thanks to Otter for the reference images, they'll be a great help when I do get back to the P-39, which at my current rate should be some time around the next millennium.

w00t!!!! 500 posts of varying quality.

Re: Its that time again.

And away we go!

I was quite relaxed about the difficulty that I would have with this one, then I re-opened this thread and recalled all of BLOWHARDS advice when it come to colours and p-39's, now I think I'll retreat to the safety of my "Dora.'

Haven't even considered colour as yet, currently concentrating on form.

Still a ways to go.
