Re: I'm at it again

Thanks
Yes please, if you can find it, do post. It was hard trying to tell what was bad scan, cheap printing and real airplane in the photo I have.

BTW, does it look light to anyone? It looks SUPER light on my work computer. I'm scared.

Re: I'm at it again

found it,

you ain't going to like this, no two colour camouflage, plus images of the aircraft today at the imperial war museum London, still in its original colours that it was wearing when they sliced it up

sorry mate

Re: I'm at it again

Sorry to you mate, that IS two tone paint The preserved sections have RAF Earth painted over the IJN green. It can be see very clearly in all the color photos.
That's the model 22 in the museum, the upper plane in the photo with showing 2 planes in flight.
For certain all moving surfaces are green, probably RAF green. Whether I interpreted the other parts of the plane right is another matter. I'm starting to think I've got the forward section wrong though. I can see a dark demarcation in my photo but not so much in yours. You can see the darker shape clearer in the photo with the two planes.
The larger picture is nice. It's a little more washed out but a WHOLE lot sharper that the one I have. It looks like my peeling paint needs some work though
I've got those museum photos plus a few others too.
Thanks for posting them though.
I have no idea what's going on with the orange paint, it's not IJN primer.

Re: I'm at it again

hi BH,

yes i know they overpainted the Nakajima dk green, but looking at the IPM cockpit section, something don't make sense, the paint chips are the same, but there is no trace of the demarkation line evident on the inflight photo, so was the green painted over at some point after the inflight shot, if so why did they not over paint the chipping

there is something very strange going on here.

as for the red/orange colour on the cockpit sill, may have been a warning painted on her, something like, unflyable, or not airworthy, or some other ugently painted note.

now i am going to work cos my brain hurts

Re: I'm at it again

Ah, you don't see the paint demarcation on the museum plane because it's the model 22, the upper of the two planes. The model 21 didn't survive...or so I'm told.
Ryan the Zero guy thinks there is no RAF green there either though. I'm starting to think what I have on mine aft of the forward cowling panel (where the side slit vents are) is just thinner earth paint and just shows uneven color, maybe a bit more IJN green shows through there.
I just need to find the time to get to it. I want to go back over all the parts and reinterpret everything. I know my peeling paint needs some work.
I wonder why the antenna mast is orange???
Does anyone know if the Brits used orange repair paint? I've seen red, but orange?
The Japanese used orange for their trainers and target tugs, but why is the model 22 green in some places?
I am going to revise mine some for sure.

Re: I'm at it again

All right, this is what I've ended up with. I still see something going on with the forward section but if it is a demarcation of colors it's more slight.
better peeling paint too.

Re: I'm at it again

looks better,

could do with reducing the lighting a touch more, not to much or the colours will look too dark, with regard the demarcation, it looks like they painted over any japanese markings, so what is going of with the forward fuselage i have no idea

we need more images there must be some somewhere.

Re: I'm at it again

Hi BH!

Very nice your "War Prize". Just one comment/question: The RAF roundel looks handpainted to me. So shape is not 100% a circle and demarcation between the 4 colours differs.

Cheers,
