Ilyushin Il-4

I wonder, did anyone do this before or am I the 1st for it?

To JMSmith: John, you seem to have quite a bunch of info about the turrets, do you have the details for soviet MB-3/UTK-s?

I know the feeling...
Although I doubt they were that easy prey in real life...

P.S.: nobody noticed the missing shadow on the engine below the wing...

Re: Ilyushin Il-4

Any suggestions how to make realistic ground dirt on the wheels? If to make it dark - it's barely visible. If to make it light -- it ruins the solid tire look...

P.S.: If I'm not mistaken, GFR made a bunch of mega-high-detailed wheels/tires? (I just can't find the link)... Am I right, James?

I dunno, maybe. probably. Its been a while since I created any so I suspect that if they were mine and I saw them today I wouldn't be all that impressed.

As much fun getting into the stupid never to be seen detail is, you wont* be seeing any wheels on my profiles from now on as I have come to the conclusion that they (esp the main gear) always look odd in profile.

As for dirt, just get one of the rougher brushes and experiment with scattering opacity and colour dynamics, its easy really nobody will see it anyway.

*Unless of course I lose my mind a draw a WWI type.

Re: Ilyushin Il-4

Thanks, James. But IMO, the gear-less profiles will always loose to full drawn (like all the gear, propeller blades e.t.c.)... Besides, you can put them angled on the nice grass like Ugo does and open the canopy -- that's the look!
But for jets -- maybe the gear wheels look un-appropriate, yes...
