Re: Happy New Year

OH OH OH!!!
(go here Welcome To FokkerDR1.com - Research on the Fokker Dr.I)
One thing Jester, please do get rid of the fuselage side piece outlines. You will never ever see that on a real plane. That fabric stretches tight over that and you just don't see the edges of that wood piece.
So would you like 12 Jastas or just 12 Dr.Is?

Here are a few MUST haves-

J.7 Josef Jacobs 450/17-

J.19 Hans Körner 503/17
[IMG]ttp://www.fokkerdr1.com/503-17[2].jpg[/IMG]
Info on Rahn's Dr-1 503/17

J.12 Ulrich Neckel

J.6 Johann Von Janzen 403/17

J.2 Friedrich Kempf 493/17

Keep in mind he flew 2 Dr.1s marked with Ks, I chose the later one for color.
I'm not sure if the lower leg of the K is really curved though.

J.11 Manfred Von Richthofen 477/17 or 425/17 depe4nding on who you believe...

Need help on Dr.1 477/17 for MVR Aircraft Project

Do some research and get those "smudges" under the cockpit right

J.11 Lothar Von Richthofen 454/17

J.10 Werner Voss Fi.102/17

Please no yellow cowling Dark olive is the way to go here!

But there are SO MANY more. Most all planes were marked with black and white paint. Other colors are more rare.
Whatever you do DON'T do Von Raben's plane in blue!!!!!!

That's a HUGE no-no!!!!!!
It was without doubt red and white!

BTW, I really did Jim Miller's profiles, I hadn't seen then until now.

Re: Happy New Year

BTW, is that Carl Bolle?
It's generally accepted that the white cross fields were over panted in olive, not yellow.

And that cowling you've done is odd for Jasta 2, usually the white are was within the panel line that formed the front of the cowling.
Like so-

I'll see if I can find some photos of the cowling, I can't find any online.

Also, the stenciling should be in black, and there should be a datum line as seen in Ronny's profile. And...
Sorry, there are so many details that need to be correct

Re: Happy New Year

Thanks Dave, there aren't many WWI peeps on here and a lot of the errors are not getting picked up, because peeps just don't know this stuff.
I hear you on the side panels, I tested it both ways and thought it looked more realistic without (historic). I guess I got sucked in by the replicas on this one.
Fixing things at a reduced pace due to new years flu, but hope to be starting the FW190 right after doing 12 pups, Camels and Dr1's.

Thanks for the e-mail, you've given me plenty of interesting schemes to play with, I was dreading only having red and factoryry finished green Fokkers

Yep, between the Aerodrome and fokkerdr1.com you can find a lot of info without ever needing to pick up a book. Plus, if there's a discussion about a particular plane at the Aerodrome, you can bet it will be argued to death from all angles, enough for anyone to form their own opinion.
You saw this one?
Dr I of Carl Bolle

I take it you're doing a calender?

One of the very first profiles I ever made (in blue ). I was maybe 10, and I had photocopied a Dr 1 side view on a A3 sheet of paper. I then coloured it using watercolours and gouache. Come to think about it, things haven't changed that much... They just got a bit more complicated.

Looks very good JI!

I'll only nit-pick about the direction and location of the mud splatter on the rudder. (Oh no. I did it again. I should maybe talk to someone about that.)

Re: Happy New Year

BH- I always try to make 12 profiles from each template, no calendar.

Gamary- I dunno about the mud direction, I figured I'd do 2 directions just to be on the safe side (oh hold on, I already said that too) it must be catching?

As for the profile you did when you were 10 years old, I'm sure you are forgiven . . . . . by all except for John.

BTW, I got your mail about the Spits and on checking some of the pics on airlines, it got me wondering again . . . some pics seem to show a nice curve to the vertical fin and others seem to show it quite a bit flatter.
I will look into it a bit more before I answer your mail.
The flu is getting the better of me atm, but I would say do it the way that makes you happy and dont listen to John
