I can explain it now. The gasket is not needed for the aircraft to be airworthy and therefore it may have been omitted in some cases. I can see it being very useful in keeping dust out of the moving parts of the prop...especially under sandy desert conditions. At very high RPM's these parts would wear out VERY rapidly if not protected in some way. The drawing you see is not mine but an original done by the people at the Messerschmitt plant in Germany and is dated 9 JUN 1944.
