Fw 190 A-8/R8 IV./JG 3 Hptm. Moritz

Hello everybody!

I wish you all happy holidays and want to present you the first colour profile of my Fw 190-project. It`s a Fw 190 A-8/R8 "Sturmbock" of IV. (Sturm)/JG 3, flown by Hptm. Moritz. The aircraft is well known by a famous photograph showing the plane with a camouflage cowling and without the white band of the Reichsverteidigung. My colour profile was made regarding to a drawing in the book "Focke-Wulf Fw 190 Aces of the western front" (John Weald) edited by Osprey. I'm not sure if this version is correct - has anyone any information about this subject?

Re: Fw 190 A-8/R8 IV./JG 3 Hptm. Moritz

Hello!

If this plane had MK 108 as shown you have the wrong cartridge case opening at the wing.

See here: Paul Lixfeldt

Also check if the plane had additional bullet-proof glass.

See here: http://luftwaffeinprofile.se/Lixfeldt.html

Most Sturmstaffel Fw 190 had no MG in the fuselage! So the MG were covered.

See here: http://luftwaffeinprofile.se/Lixfeldt.html

Also I think the wing Balkenkreuz is completely wrong!

Cheer,

Re: Fw 190 A-8/R8 IV./JG 3 Hptm. Moritz

This is how it ends, when someone with good intention takes Mr. Weals books and profiles from Osprey as a backbone of the information
Check the Sturmjaeger fittings, Pancer had screws on sides to be mounted to the fuselage, additional windscreen armor is possibly missing,
Not the wing balkenkreuz buit also fuselage one has baaad proportions,
some stencils are missing,
The spiral end is also too wide...

as well no white RVT band, possibly yellow underengine piece, (as shown by Simon? Luftwaffe Color Profiles: Focke Wulf Fw 190 A-8/R-2, flown by Wilhelm Moritz )

Yep, loads of detail to research and using any one piece of reference, ESPECIALLY Osprey profiles, won't give you all the details!

Some good details about the modifications can be found here-

From artistic side. You have to do a lot of work to improove Your profil. Ligts are to shadow. And drawing is too flat. You have to much more decide If Your drawing is like 3d "real" graphic nor like "artistic" - look at graphics of mr Kow Yokoyama:

Here are less of shadows and lights but e.g. drawing lines looks like made with art pen.

Here are my Fw 190 A-1 made like graphics:

Wilhelm Moritz flew more than one plane.

Here is the one made by Cleas Sundin.

Wilhelm Moritz

I think the reference pic was published in the Fw 190 book by Rodeike.

Also a good reference: http://www.eduard.cz/products/pdf/n84/8428.pdf

Cheers,
