Re: DH.82 Tiger Moth

I think I've finished the detail work on this one (and there is a LOT of detail on it):

Name: AAA DH.82 Tiger Moth port model.jpg
Views: 238
Size: 35.8 KB

Now it needs a bit of light weathering plus a nice paintscheme...

Re: DH.82 Tiger Moth

damn GM,

don't know who to put this, your colours are a mixed bag, camouflage colours "look" wrong to ME, and your yellow is too pale, your marking colours should be brick red, and darker greyer blue.

True. I pulled off the colour samples from a lousy set of badly-lit pictures so I was expecting this. Send me the right colour samples, will ya? That 'll teach ya to have a mouth as big as Texas.

Mostly, I wanted to see how the template would look with real colours (even if they are wrong). Changing them is easy enough.

Re: DH.82 Tiger Moth

This is a tough one, well anything with 2 wings and rigging is!
For myself, I'd like to see stronger more bold shadows, highlights and details to pull the wings out more. Or, maybe it's all there but the size isn't showing it? Can you post a lager piece showing the wings?
Maybe you've got it but something like a biplane needs more of everything to show depth, or at least IMHO.

(In fact, I already see some fixes I need to make on my own string bag )

Colors can be fixed pretty easy. The green you have looks almost like an Australian color.
Ebo posted nice RAF Photoshop swatches here, maybe those are a good place to start? I'm assuming they're fairly accurate.

Re: DH.82 Tiger Moth

hi GM,

these are a good as ya can get, because i made um no did a lot of research to find the right colours for this, my only comment would be lighten them up a bit for scale effect, looking at it now i did not do it enough.

This should be better:

It's based on John's drawing and comments so go ahead and say it's wrong. More seriously, thanks for your input John: the result is indeed much better. I felt like being lazy yesterday but I knew you wouldn't let me get away with it.

Blowhard, here's a 1/2-size close-up:

Looking at it now makes me notice a few things that need correction. I'm not too unhappy with the way I've handled the wings. I usually fail them completely so this is good for me. Let me know what you think.

Now I just need to keep progressing. (BTW: I have the feeling that nearly every new model I draw is a great learning experience. Do you guys also feel that way? It seems there is no limit to learning. )
