B17G progress

Thought that now John was so kind to send those B-17 drawings. That you all should see how it comes along with creating the profile.

Here todays work..

BTW, if any one could recommend the best way of creating cockpit glass I'll be happy.
The one I've used is a bluish-grey reduced to 50%.

Re: B17G progress

Thanks AP, not that I got much out of it. But I will try and study some real life pics and see if I can work something out.

Will do John.

Re: B17G progress

Looks like a good start. The bottom of the chin turret is way too pointy, however. What resolution are you working at?

Things to watch with B-17s...

Cheek windows will vary depending on production block and manufacturer. There was a lot of variance on the F model; about the only difference for the G is that early Boeing blocks did not have the large "wedge" windows.

Waist windows will also vary. What you have here are the later fully enclosed versions. Some of the earliest ones had fully open waists and there were also some middle blocks that had windows with prominent frames that divided it into 3 parts.

I'm sure you already know about the "Cheyenne" tail turret.

Late blocks had a shorter nose cone.

I guess what I'm saying is to make sure to thoroughly research whichever plane you're profiling!

Edit: I forgot to mention; if you need photos of any parts, I have a bunch.

Re: B17G progress

Thanks Jarick, I'll proberly will be asking for help later on .

The original profile is made in 7848x3727 pixels.

The plane I'm gonna make is "BTO in the ETO".
The aircraft belonged to USAAF, 8 Air Force, 615 Bomb Group, 401 Bomb Squadron.
Read more here: B 17G 42-31619 belly landed at Sosegaard on the island of Bornholm 24/5 1944

I have a long time ago made it as a skin for Il-2

Below an earlier version of the skin..

Re: B17G progress

OK, 42-31619 was a B-17G-20-BO. That means you're good on the windows except for the waist guns.
