Thumbs up great RGB color calculating tool

Hi all,

During my search for the RGB values for FS31350, I ran into the following tool that calculates the RGB values and hexcodes when an FS number is entered. I think this is a great toll for all repainters that depend on FS codes for the right colors;

The RGB Color Calculator / Web Page Color Choosing Tool / HTML Color Code Generator

Suggest you look at this and bookmark it when deemed usefull

You need the HSV values to calculate.

It works the other way around: once you've got an FS number (many manuals and/or paintschemes do show them), this tool will calculate the Hex code and RGB values which you can then use in PSP or Photoshop to get the right colors....

Re: great RGB color calculating tool

I guess VF41 was a litle too enthousiastic as this tool does not work from FS codes but from HEX codes. Hex codes however are far easier to find on the www then RGB values, so if you need RGB values for a certain FS codes, enter the FS code, plux "HEX" in google and almost for a 100% it will get you the applicable Hex code, enter this Hex code in the mentioned tool and it gives you the required RGB values

Serval,

Many thanks for asking the same question--thought I was going nuts (a short drive)

I fuess you didn't notice that the FS595 list, among others, is on this site with both RGB and HEX values. So, you don't have to look that far.
Only the very number VF41 was looking for is not in the list.
Probably because we do not have the version which included that color.
We try to include every color that was once in the list, because sometimes colors get added and removed.

BTW: it does not work from HEX codes, since HEX codes are RGB values themselves. Look at them, they are 6 digits, 2 for R 2 for G and 2 for B
And they have exactly the same range, from 0 to 256, where FF equals 256.
This calculation tools works from HSV values. if you have these values, you can calculate the RGB values both digital and in HEX format.
Only thing this tool is missing: the Gamma value it is not even mentioned which value is used. Gamma also influences what a color on screen looks like.
I know I also do not say more then that the RGB values are calibrated for a standard monitor, but that leaves me space to make them available to people creating textures, but making them useless enough for professionals to recalculate them to the values they need, since Federal Standard and RAL like to sell their software that can calculate these things.
That also partially explains why the various lists do not match: different calculation methods are used. And some even scan colorchips and then see what RGB value comes from it.
