My skin looks messed up in game (Was Need some help.)

Hey there.

I am new to skinning (yes, another noob) and I am using CS3. I followed some online tutorials and got a skin to work briefly last night. Today I created two more skins using the same process as last night, sent them over to my friend (I am at work, shh) and he sent me images back. They have failed horribly.

Anyone know why this might be happening?

Re: Need some help.

Was the skin file rotated at all? Maybe a 90, 180, or 270 degree rotation on the skin file could cause such a thing.

Re: Need some help.

Since the P-47 has it's text mirrored: Maybe you did mirror the whole image?
But another question. How did the skin look at your own computer?

Re: Need some help.

The skin shown is for a P-40, not a P-47. Thats your problem.
I used to skin these a lot, it must be burnt into my mind.

Re: Need some help.

I wasn't able to check myself last night as I was at the Magic game. I will check once I get home from work (shh, I'm at work again) and in the meantime have my friend check when he pops online. Hopefully it is a case of mistaken identity - a P-40 and not a P-47 - otherwise I won't be a happy camper.

Thanks for the help.

Also, how would rotating the image effect it? (To add text, for instance, it needs to be rotated). I of course rotate back to its original place afterward.

Re: Need some help.

When you need to rotate text, just rotate the layer with text, not the whole image.

Re: Need some help.

Ok. That makes sense then.

Also, what are people referring to when they say 'Templates'?

I've seen a lot of skins posted, giving credit for the Template to some one else.

I open up the Void.bmp file and 'paint' the new skin onto it. Can some one explain the Template thing to me?

Re: Need some help.

A template is a preconfigured paint kit. Take a look at the link below, there are many examples there:
