Glossy vs. Matte

Hello everyone,

I've been using Serval's corsair template to build some stuff for my squad, but I'm having trouble getting rid of the glossiness on the F4U. How do I give it a matte scheme instead? I'm pretty sure I need to use alpha channels, I just don't know what to do with them.

Re: Glossy vs. Matte

Last I worked with IL2/FB, there was no way to adjust the speculars. It has been a few years though!

Re: Glossy vs. Matte

Point is: the brighter the color, the more glossy it looks.

The only way to make it less glossy is to make the paint less equal.
So adding noise and layers with dirt and smoke does the trick.

So, making the color a bit darker also helps.
That is why I used this grey layer, which you find in some of my templates.

Thanks Serval, I'll give that a try.

What he said

Add noise to the colour layer but also, you can de-saturate the colour ie. shift it towards gray. I don't know how you do it in PS but in PSP it's SHFT+H (or CTL+H maybe) and you should get a little window with 3 sliders ... desaturation will be there. Use a fistfull cos the specular lighting in IL-2 is quite powerful.

The other thing is, avoid abosulte colours ie. absolute white. Use a very light grey, check it in IL-2 and the lighting will make it look white well sometimes
