Re: 23rd Fighter Group

Thanks guys.

That OD is hard to get down. Dunno how many tests I ran to finally come up with the outcome you see above.

Plenty more to come for sure. Plan on making at least twelve skisn available for d/l.

Re: 23rd Fighter Group

V nice mate.
The problem I find with the O/D is that there are so many differaqnt shades it could be, depending on amount of sunlight/heat, dirt/dust, age etc, so none are incorrect, none are right, just an individual preferance.

Re: 23rd Fighter Group

I sorta like the brownish tones - I've tried getting it just right on B-25's so often that I had to put it aside or commit violence, but I did manage to get it where I liked it on a batch of P-40's once. Difference in scale effect maybe?

Re: 23rd Fighter Group

Scale could play a role Vig. I've seen similar thoughts expressed on how scale models should be painted.

Re: 23rd Fighter Group

I know it makes a difference on ship models - smaller=more distance=lighter if you want to replicate what a full-size ship would look like from a distance that replicated the apparent size of the model.

Re: 23rd Fighter Group

I like the brown shades too but I also like the faded DO best
The DO on the P-40s looks pretty good but if I had to guess I'd say it was fairly new fresh paint
Looks good, very strong details but still subtle, nice balance!

I came across this a few weeks ago-
Pittsburgh Paint Chart from WW2!
Interesting.
