Please Help

Hello all! Well here we go, I have been trying to repaint the default 737 in FSX I converted the dds texture with DXTbmp and painted it then converted it back to DDS with DXTbmp and put it back in the texture folder and when i load the plane the model is all black. I have did many repaints in FS9 but i can't wrap my head around painting in FSX. I have looked all over the internet for a good tutorial but nothing explains in detail how to convert the files. I also downloaded a program called DDS Converter 2 but im not sure how to use this program. If anyone could give me a few minutes to explain some of the proper steps on converting the files i would very much appreciate the help. I have a teamspeak server if this helps. Thanks Much Todd aka RAZ

Re: Please Help

Care to post this again in English? The R2D2 on the BMP with a YNOT and the FRZ12 have left us all a bit in the dark. It's a bit like using abbreviations in Instant Messenger and similar systems. Unless we can understand you, no one can help. On the other hand, maybe I'm just a clued out old fart.

Re: Please Help

Sorry for posting in the wrong thread! I was not sure where to post so I just picked one and not because it was busy. I thought i picked a thread that was for repainting aircraft.

Re: Please Help

DDS is the texture format that Flight simulator X aircraft use, And DXTbmp is a popular texture converting tool that comes with microsoft windows, Im not sure if this helps because i was under the impression that this was a Simulator repainting forum and that everyone who read the post would surely know the terms i used. Please don't take my tone as smart but this is honestly what i thought. Sorry to make it confusing for you guys.

Re: Please Help

Well I don't think a lot of people here repaint for FSX, most are profile artists. If you have questions about general technique or want to try your hand at profiling too then this is the site to ask at If you can do textures you already have a lot of the basic skills required to do profiles

Re: Please Help

No problem RAZ, sorry there isn't much useful advice. I recognize your abbreviations easily, BTW, due to some experience with these a while back. Your first post explains the problem very clearly. I would guess that there is some issue with the alpha channel on the texture file you converted. See what kind of alpha channel is on the original texture file, then make sure that something similar is on your repainted file.

I used to paint for FS9 regularly, but I never made the jump to FSX. So I never learned any of the tricks that go along with that. So my guess above about the alpha channel really is a guess.

Most of the repaint artists here seem to work with IL2 and some with Warbirds and LockON, and a fading number with FS9. And very little for FSX, unfortunately.
