Re: Phantom Mustang

I don't have any other repaints for this particular a/c which show reflections - the closest seem to be clever shading - but as a game CFS2 definitely supports reflections. I have some Aeroplane Heaven Corsairs, for instance, which reflect beautifully.

Re: Phantom Mustang

Hmm, very interesting. If other models are showing reflections then things are working fine in your software.

Let me ask... do others you know who fly this particular model get reflections? I know that in FS2004 reflections must be built into the actual model file in gmax, otherwise alpha creates transparency like you are experiencing. So I'm wondering if this P51 model is able to show reflections.

Re: Phantom Mustang

I don't know anyone else with this model. I contacted the painter and he said he hadn't come across the problem before.
I know one CFS2 player who might be able to help - I'll try him.

Re: Phantom Mustang

dhasdell,
CFS2 does not support reflective textures. If you want the P-51 to display properly in CFS2 use DTXBMP and save the texture.bmp's in Save as type: extended 16 bit 565. This is at the bottom of the save window.
Cheers Thicko

Re: Phantom Mustang

Oh thanks for the advice thinko, hopefully that'll be the solution we're looking for.

Re: Phantom Mustang

Hello Thicko - now there's a sig I recognise.
Thanks for the suggestion, but that didn't work either. I know you're a CF2 expert; have you got this a/c and skin?

As for reflections, they might be rare in CFS2, but take a look at these pics of the AH Corsair:

Hello dhasdell,
Sorry, I don,t have that plane. What you are seeing on the AH Corsair is shine in the MDL. Use the same MDLC.exe that you converted the P-51 with, to add the shine to the MDL. I would also lighten the grey in the skin to improve the display in CFS2. The tutorials are excellent at this site for doing this and much more,
Cheers Thicko

Re: Phantom Mustang

I haven't got a MDLC.exe. All I've tried with the P-51 has been with DXT.bmp. Can you post a link for me, please, either to the prog or the tutorial, or both?

You will need both MDLC142.zip and mk_mdlc_v2 by Morten to use it easily. Unless you like working in DOS!
Sim-Outhouse - Combat Flight Center - CFS2 Utilities

Bare metal tutorial is here. Even though many of the tutorials are for Il-2/FB, the basic ideas are the same for CFS. If you do a skin edit be sure to save the .bmp with DTX.BMP. Most of us now use the 24 bit 565 for CFS2 use.

I hope this will help and keep an eye out for my soon to be released Il-10 for CFS2.
Cheers Thicko
