Nice B25 Freeware

Not really skinning related, but this forum could do with some traffic

Found a really nice B25 Mitchell at:

FS2004 Vintage Aircraft Page 43

No VC but has an absolutely stunning 2D panel which is very accurate, and also has very realistic gauges. Also has an IFR panel and views from the nose, tail and waist gun positions.

Its a 55mb download but it looks good, fly's real nice, has good sound and a panel to die for......and its free!!

Re: Nice B25 Freeware

Made a nice flight in this plane last night. I used the IFR panel (il2 guys will need to look up IFR ) for the whole flight which is weird because the whole screen is full of panel, no outside view at all!

To test my instrument flying, I started off at Coventry airport and climbed to 2000ft. I levelled out and tuned the VOR to Daventry on 116.4. I intercepted the 065 radial which would put me on a track for my home airfield of Conington. I estimated the distance to run and how long it would take at a fixed speed and started the stop watch.

It was quite a handfull to fly. If you treat it like most Sim planes and just fly at full throttle you will exceed the safe RPM range. So you have to set the correct prop pitch to bring the RPM into the green and trim the plane out to fly level. Once set, any throttle movement will upset the balance of the plane. Now its just a case of scanning the instruments and making small changes to maintain heading, speed, altitude and trim.

Well, it all payed off as I arrived overhead Conington about a minute and a half late most likely due to wandering off course when fiddling with the prop pitch, good flight over all though

Re: Nice B25 Freeware

Hey great flight. Hearing about the safe RPM ranges made me think about my PMDG Beech 1900C, where I set cruise power based on fuel flow economy. Fun to have those things modeled.

Re: Nice B25 Freeware

Yeah, it made me look back to my il2 days and wonder how many people would have stuck with it if it had that level of realism

Re: Nice B25 Freeware

Ive just learned recently how to use Prop pitch properly to keep the rpm in the safe zone...

It took "only" 3 years to learn to do so

Re: Nice B25 Freeware

Indeed, one of the most detailed FS aircraft I've ever seen. Secretly, I think it is a hacked version of the payware MAAM B-25. Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Re: Nice B25 Freeware

I thought it was the stripped down free demo version of the MAAM? I may be wrong, but I thought they had a free version with no VC?

Re: Nice B25 Freeware

I'm 99% sure its not a hacked one. It seems to be a plane to highlight the work of the panel maker. The docs and manual are very professionally presented and the panel has security features built into it to stop it being used else where.

One of the docs states:

Copyright and Piracy Policy

This product is FREEWARE and Copyright ? to RCS Panels, (Roy Chaffin, Steve Wayne, Brian Withers, Alan Landsburgh and Arne Bartels.)

No files may be removed, added, or modified except for your own personal use. Distribution by any means of any modified or original files which are part of this package is strictly prohibited under International Copyright Law without the prior written permission of the authors.

All RCS Panels gauges are fitted with a sophisticated security system to stop them being "hacked". Any attempt to change anything within the gauge (by HEX editing), or changing the Bitmaps, will cause the gauge to stop functioning. Furthermore, even changing the exterior file name of the gauge will also render it useless.

RCS Panels will NOT grant permission for any developer to use any component in this package to be used in any other package. This is NOT public domain software, and giving credit to us for its use is not sufficient.

No charge may be made for this archive or any of its contents. It must remain FREEWARE.

Inclusion of this package on any compilation CD for free or otherwise for distribution will only be allowed with the prior written permission of RCS Panels.

The authors' rights and wishes concerning this archive must be respected. Legal and other action will always be taken against violators of these provisions.

Besides, you know I wouldnt post any pirate software on any forum, never mind this one

Re: Nice B25 Freeware

Ah, very interesting. I hope to check this out this month after I'm done with a few other projects. Gotta be one of the best looking freeware panels I've seen.
